From 9-10 December 2019, the Beijing Normal University (BNU) and Xinjiang Astronomical Observatory (XAO) Cooperation and Exchange Seminar was held in Beijing. More than 40 scholars from both parties participated in this seminar.
WANG Na, Director of XAO, and ZHONG Jiayong, Head of the Astronomy Department of BNU, each introduced the latest development and current situation of the respective institute. Discussion from the participants was mainly based around their collaborative projects and advantageous research areas with topics of in-depth discussion included the development of Muztagata site, the construction status of the 50 meters high resolution telescope, and the research on turbulence in the near surface layer at a telescope site.
During the seminar an agreement of another five years cooperation intention, which is based on the 2014 cooperation agreement between XAO and BNU, was signed by both sides. By deepening the cooperation, they expected that both parties will jointly build radio and optical equipments, cultivate and support for young scientists and engineers to carry out creative research and study, and make more contributions in technical innovation. This seminar is significant for the development of astronomical research, the complement of the advantages from both sides, and the advancement of collaborative innovation and mutual development.
