From 17-20 December, more than 90 representatives from astronomical institutes, universities and companies from all over China gathered together in Guangzhou for the “2018 Symposium on Large Aperture Antenna Reflection Measurement and Active Compensation Technology”. Organized by Xinjiang Astronomical Observatory (XAO), the symposium was held for reporting of the research progress on technology related to the 973 project on key technology of ‘110-m aperture fully steerable radio telescope’ (QTT). Participants of the symposium included Jin Ze, project expert; Huang Cheng, researcher; Yu, Xiaoxiao, Head of High Technological Research and Development Center at Ministry of Science and Technology of the People’s Republic of China and Yang, Xiaoping, director of Science and Technology Department of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region

Dr. Na Wang, Director of XAO, gave a brief introduction to the project, reported on the research progress and achievements of the QTT-973 project, as well as introduced an overall development of the QTT project. In addition, more than 30 academic reports were delivered by the delegates covering areas on antenna active reflector control, antenna measurement, high speed electro-magnetic terminal, electromagnetic compatibility and ultra-wide band feed, etc. After four years of preparations and overcoming challenges, the QTT-973 project team has expanded their research to engineering practice, become increasingly capable of solving many key technical problems, and promoted and strengthened on their ability.

At the symposium, the leaders and experts fully affirmed the research results thus far obtained by the QTT-973 project team, and expressed specific requirements, recommendations and expectations for the project completion in next year.

In addition to the representatives of the participating institutes of the 973 project, this symposium also attracted a number of interested individuals of the QTT project. The symposium strengthened the communication between the researchers of the project and promoted the exchange and cooperation between the participating institutes as well as advanced the research progress of the QTT-973 project, from which a solid foundation has been laid for the upcoming final acceptance and the project constructions.
