From November 29th to December 1st, QTT International Advisory Workshop was held in Urumqi. Academicians, astronomers and experts from both home and abroad attended the workshop. Leaderships, scientists and technicians were also present at the meeting.
The workshop consists of several topics of QTT for discussion, including its science goals, technical specifications, site construction and programming, investment estimation, operation and management mode, popular science education, etc. After hearing the reports presented by the QTT Project Team, the Panel of Experts held several internal discussions and then gave specific advices and suggestions.
After two days of discussion, the Panel of Experts formed a preliminary opinion. The experts all agree that QTT is situated at an excellent site and can meet the needs of the science goals, and it is also beneficial to carry out international cooperation. QTT Project Team is composed of young scientific and technological staff. The young QTT staff members are talented, dedicated and enthusiastic. With proper development and training, they will become an important scientific and technical resource for Chinese Astronomy. The QTT, 65m and FAST form a powerful and complementary suite of radio astronomy facilities in China and share many common scientific and technical goals and requirements. The heavy burden on each project to accomplish its own goals can be reduced by careful and deliberate planning to share its expertise and resources. To ensure the development of the project, the Panel of Experts wishes to make detailed analysis on the science goals, technical schemes and project progress. Furthermore, the QTT project should cooperate with the spectrum-management and local authorities to establish a radio quiet zone, protecting the lifetime of the project.
