Muztagh Station
Muztagh Station is located on the Pamirs Plateau at an altitude of approximately 4500m in Akto county, southwest of Xinjiang. The cold and dry highland climate together with a sparse population far away from the city make the Muztagh Station as one of the preferred place for carrying out site selection for optical astronomy. Seven consecutive years of site monitoring data have been formally published in top international academic journals. The seeing, night sky brightness, and atmospheric water vapor content at the Muztagh Station have reached the standards of excellent international optical astronomical sites. These conditions meet the observational requirements for medium and large-aperture optical telescopes in the visible and near to mid-infrared bands.
Currently, several astronomical observation instruments have been installed, including a 50 cm diffraction limit telescope, a "Lunar flash" telescope. In collaboration with Beijing Normal University, Xinjiang University, and the Nanjing Institute of Astronomical Optics and Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, a 1.93-meter optical telescope is under construction at the site.
