QTT Named to Nature’s 2023 List of Key Science Events to Watch
The construction of the QiTai radio Telescope (QTT) began in Qitai County, Xinjiang, China in September 2022. The project was listed by the Nature journal as one of the most anticipated science events in the world for 2023.
QTT is one of China's major scientific and technological infrastructure projects in astronomy. Once completed, it will become the world’s largest and most precise fully steerable radio telescope, with a diameter of over 100 meters. Due to its exceptional sensitivity, the telescope will be capable of observing three-quarters of the sky. This includes key astronomical regions such as the Galactic Center and the area extending 12 degrees to its south.
With the goal of contributing significantly to global astronomical research, the Xinjiang Astronomical Observatory is fully committed to ensuring the telescope's high-quality construction.
